Monologues

Jan. 17, 2024 - Feb. 14, 2024

Wednesdays, 4:00PM - 5:30PM

Using skills from both Acting for Stage and Acting Through Song, students will learn how to analyze a monologue much the same way one does a script and a song. They will build characters, discover their acting "beats", find their character's intention, and work on memorization techniques. By the end of the course, students will present a monologue that keeps the audience engaged and interested the entire time!

Audition Techniques

Feb. 21, 2024 - March 20, 2024

Wednesdays, 4:00PM - 5:30PM

In this course, students will "Build their Book" for auditions. They will work on their resumes, have headshots taken, choose and work on one comedic and one dramatic monologue, and choose and work on two song cuts: one uptempo and one ballad. During the final session of the course, they will each have a mock audition and receive feedback from the panel. This course is specifically designed to prepare students to audition for the Granite Theatre's Youth Production, as auditions will be held shortly after the course is completed. Students registered for this class are not required to audition for the show.

Acting Through Song

Nov. 20, 2023 - Dec. 18, 2023

Mondays, 4:00PM - 5:30PM

Musical theater is more than just singing and dancing; it’s acting through a song. By using material from Broadway and movie musicals, students will explore how to interpret a song, how to collaborate in small group numbers, and even how to act while dancing (or moving!). Students are asked to come prepared with one song that they would like to work on throughout the course, and will be taught an additional song throughout the sessions.
